“There's a race of men that don't fit in, A race that can't sit still; So they break the hearts of kith and kin, And they roam the world at will. They range the field and rove the flood, And they climb the mountain's crest; Their's is the curse of the gypsy blood, And they don't know how to rest.”

Things I like about Home

I've noticed that lately when I visit my parents in Kamloops, I've been getting increasingly nostalgic. There are a lot of things about home that I love - things that I miss since living in a postage-stamp sized apartment in the city.....

Like these oddities:
"Sometimes I think we're all nuts"
Miniature chest of drawers on the kitchen counter with a few little interesting miniatures (and two baskets woven by mum)
minitaure sculputure of my grandfather sitting on the fireplace
And these curtains...which were original to the house when we bought it 13 years ago and never thought to change
mum's wall of curios in her workroom. It reminds me of a game of "eye spy." I spy a cookie, a die, a little pink flower; a key for turning and a lighthouse tower....
And then the really nice things about home:
the willow tree in the backyard
Mum's garden (which was overflowing this year!)
an excellent collection of tea tins
a neat little row of garbage bins, recycling bins, and a composter. Oh! How I wish I could compost!
Of course, I'm in no frame of mind to actually own and maintain a house much bigger than the apartment I'm in now (it's only 560 sq ft), but it is nice to think that at one point there was room to grow, and no fire department next door keeping you up!

  1. Bilbo, checkin' in!

Your parents have quite an extensive collection of tea tins. I must say I am tremendously jealous! I'm not much of a collector, but I do have a wonder "collection" of stories I can share.

For example, one afternoon I was off for a stroll through farmer Dobbin's fields near the Baranduin River and heard a frightful noise. Alarmed, I bounded towards the sound. Lo and behold, it was just my friend Pippin who had eaten too much of farmer Dobbin's famous snap peas and had earned himself a belly ache! Poor Pippin, but he did bring it upon himself. We retreated to Bag End, my home, for a sturdy pot of tea and some second-breakfast.

I should write a book some day about my adventures!

Take very good care of yourself my dear friend Sarah.
