“There's a race of men that don't fit in, A race that can't sit still; So they break the hearts of kith and kin, And they roam the world at will. They range the field and rove the flood, And they climb the mountain's crest; Their's is the curse of the gypsy blood, And they don't know how to rest.”

Somehow, Somewhere, We'll Find a New Way of Living....

Ok, so this isn't the "check out my new home" exposition. What this is, is the "I'm tried of unpacking and finally have my computer up and running therefore I should waste some time blogging" exposition. I've taken a few photos on the new smartphone, but haven't bothered to upload them yet, so I've decided to go in to the "March" folder and show you all of the great things that happened before I left Vancouver....

My parents came to visit in late February for Easter. I finally got to tick "Steveston" off of my Vancouver bucket list. Mike was right, it isn't terribly exciting, but it was a lovely sunny day, and worth the drive just to check it out...
Dad checks out an exhibit at the cannery...

Sun. Perfect day for red peep-toes.
Despite my belief that my short stay on 3R (the neurosciences and surgery unit at BC Children's) would allow me to slink of quietly, there were some wonderful ladies who organized an impomptu potluck for me on my last day of work. (It was actually a night shift, though I wouldn't argue about sweets at 3am).
I brought a cake. The chocolate cake from Whole Foods is a favourite of mine, and it's cheap, too! ($16!)
Though I couldn't always say that 3R was the unit I was destined for, I was definitely sad to leave the hospital. For all of it's quirks, it was a great place to learn and the team was stellar. After my very last shift, I stayed up (until 10:30, when it opened) so I could go for breakfast at the Flying Pig in Yaletown, a short walk from my home. Eggs Benny and a mimosa. Delicious. I was a titch worried that I might get shunned because I showed up in clothes only appropraite for  slumming it in your home when you feel like death, but the waiter commented that he did like my red socks - a pair that I had knit myself! Worries abated.
Because I couldn't leave this town without a proper goodbye to friends, I held a "house-cooling" party. The best 4 people who could have shown up, did. They cleaned out my pantry exquisitely, drank out the liquor cabinet, and we all opened up the Tickle Trunk for some excellent impromptu costuming. Stellar!

Mike as "Mike," Brennen as "Tranny Captain Planet," and Rae as "Cher"

No Costume Ball would be complete without a "How many friends can you fit in the tub?" contest!

I'm going to miss this city. For years I've been saying that I was just going to live in Vancouver for a little while to get my city sillies out, but that I didn't picture myself living there forever. I still think this is true, but I think I've still got plenty of city sillies in me yet....
Until next time....
